作者简介

　　苏明鸣（1980—），女，黑龙江省哈尔滨人，博士（法国巴黎第七大学），首都经济贸易大学外国语学院讲师，主要研究方向为19世纪英国文学、历史与文化。

内容简介

塞缪尔`巴特勒的代表作《众生之路》（The Way of All Flesh 1903）于1873年开始写作，到1885年完成，前后共经历十多年。该书是一部半自传体小说，也是一部成长小说（Bildungsroman）。巴特勒将自己的进化论思想完美地融入了这部小说的构思创作中，这实际上是一场他对自己的进化论思想的全面演绎。这部作品是巴特勒为探索科学真知耗尽毕生精力，最后结合自己的人生经历书写的进化论的绝唱。虽然对达尔文自然选择理论抱有误解，但是巴特勒在其发表的小说与专著中表达了自己的一套进化论思想，开创了进化论成长小说中独特的一派。遗憾的是，巴特勒的作品在他生前没有得到足够的重视，后人也没能全面系统地理解其著作与思想。本书意在对巴特勒《众生之路》这部小说中进化论思想展开全面、系统的研究与解读。
